# New Manager Introduced:
Ex-Cardiff City and Cheltenham Town striker Chris Townsend is the new manager in waiting at Cwmffrwdoer Sports Club. The Gwent County First Division side, third in the table after another win on Saturday harbour Welsh League ambitions. Chris Townsend now 42, could help bridge that gap.
Cwmffrwdoer spokesman Matthew Shearman said "we are so pleased to get someone of his calibre. Its a big move for the club as he is one of the highest profile names in the Gwent Area". Chris Townsend who also lists Southampton, Newport County, Forest Green Rovers and Gloucester City among his former haunts, is currently coaching at Llanhilleth but will take over from the "Doer's" co-managers Steve Shearman and Paul Waite in the summer. The pair of them will head a new football committee dealing with on the field matters at the growing club.
Last Saturday Chris Townsend met his future squad for the first time and spent four hours with them, announcing his ambitions beyond Gwent County League football. Shearman continued: "He had offers from other clubs apparently, though he won't tell us who, only that he favoured us because it's less travelling. He wants to to push us on to promotion now to the Welsh League, and doesn't want us over committing to many cup competitions".

# The waiting is almost up, for the announcement of the new first team manager for next season. He will take over at the end of the season, and has already been quickly introduced to some of the players after the Mardy Game.
Next season we will see a new structure at the club, where our executive committee will look after the financial affairs, connected with the club house and club, and a football committee has been formed to take care of football affairs. We see this as a more professional approach, which we hope will push the club on to even more success. The new structure will be announced and introduced in full, in the very near future.
The new manager has professional and semi-professional experience whilst playing for Cheltenham Town and Gloucester City, amongst other clubs, and will be introduced at 5.00 pm tomorrow, and will be available to talk to, about his plans and vision for the future of the club.

# Tommorrow we welcome Torfaen rival Coed Eva to Cwmffrwdoer Sport Ground. Coed Eva are having one of their most sucessful seasons for many a year, and are pushing for a top three finish, which would be a hugh achievement for them. Like wise, we are trying to finish the season off strongly are are hoping to take points off Coed Eva and try and stay in the top four.
We met Coed Eva back in early December and took the points with a 3 - 1 win. Coed Eva took the lead from the penalty spot, and were finding it hard to create and score for an hour, with both Gareth Priest and Jamie Roch missing good chances. The introduction of Matthew Shearman after an hour for David Jenkins changed the game with more movement and creativity in the final third, that freed up up more space for Roch, Priest and Aaron Palfrey to exploit. Jamie Roch scored the equaliser from the spot, then a Shearman shot across goal was diverted home before Roch scored a free kick from the edge of the box to seal the win.
Tomorrow's game should be one of good football, as both sides like to get the ball down and play football.
Jamie Roch is out with a shoulder injury, while David Jenkins is doubtful with a hamstring injury. Matthew Jackson returns from supension, so we are more or less at full strength.
25th February 2009
# The 1st team had a light training session last night at West Mon. Rhys Burton took the session and the boys are looking sharp for this Saturday's game against Coed Eva at home 2.00 pm kick off.
We are more or less at full strength for the game, a change over the last few games, with the return from suspension of Matthew Jackson, but there is injury doubt to David Jenkins who sat out training with a hamstring infury, while Aaron Palfrey is on County under 18 duty.
This Saturday will be the announcement of the new first team manager for next season, he will be introduced to the club at 5.00 pm.
15th February 2009
# The club has today announced that Manager Steve Shearman and Assistant Manager Paul Waite are to step down from there roles at the end of the season. However they are still going to remain in important roles with the club and will be working on the football committee in assisting the new manager. The football committee is the start of a new structure to the club, and all will be announced in the near future as meetings and talks are ongoing.
However the club has announced that a new manager has been appointed for next season and he will be revealed after the Coed Eva game on the 28th February.
The club would like to make a big thank you to Steve Shearman and Paul Waite as they have done a great job at the club and left great foundations for the new manager to build on.

#This Saturday we entertain Clydach Wasps, our first home game since drawing 2 - 2 with Undy on 29th November 2008.
Our last encounter with Clydach was an away game back in October, and both teams had to settle for a share of the points. Clydach are having an impressive season so far, and they will provide a very strong opposition for us tomorrow.
Our playing surface is top quality at the moment, as of the lack of action, so there are no excuses for home soil and are going to try and put up a fight to erase last weekends embarisment.
We are without Vice Captain Kevin Lewis, but other than that we are at full strenght.
Squad From: C. Williams R. Waite M. Williams D. Jenkins

# Blaenavon Blues match Preview:
This weekend we travel to arch rivals Blaenavon Blues in league action. Blaenavon are on a great run in the Welsh trophy and travel to North Wales in February, we wish them all the best for that tie.
We met Blaenavon earlier in the season and won 4 - 0 with goals from Lee Jones, Jamie Roch (2) and Kristian Howells. We will be in for a tougher test this time around with the Blues fighting for their survial.
The lads trained well this week in the freezing conditions, and should be in good shape for the game. Hopefully we can take last weeks performance into this weeks game but with a winning scoreline. Goalkeeper Craig Williams returns in goal but Aaron Palfrey could be on County Duty. After such a good display last week, Gareth Priest and Lee Jones should be confident going into this game. Also Matthew Jackson should also be in good shape after his impressive performance last week, it was nice to see Jacko pulling the strings.
It is important that we take all three points this weekend, not just for local pride but after our dissapointing draw at Abercarn, we need to keep the pressure on the top three.
Good Luck lads.

# Chepstow Facilities a disgrace to the club:
As a player I was discusted by the treatment we received at Cheptow Town last weekend. We arrived at Chepstow at 12.45 pm to find the changing room full of mud, muck, old tape cuttings, used bottles and wrappers, haven't they heard of a sweeping brush? The field was a mud bath that wasn't even fit to play rugby on. After the game at roughly 4.00 pm, and with the day light fading fast, there were no lights in our away changing room, then to top matters, there was no hot showers available to us.
At our football club we pride ourselves on our facilities at hosting visiting teams to the best of our ability. Through winter months we make sure the away Changing Rooms are clean, showers are hot, and a warm meal is prepared for our visitors. Ok may be Chepsow can't manager to cater to this standard, but a clean swept changing room, lighting and a warm shower is surely capable. We are so lucky to have a groundsman (Steve Wells) who prides himself on our playing surface and may I say, the best playing surface in the Gwent County. Also a fantastic committee who prepare the club on match day through putting up the nets, flags and marking the field, also putting the kit up in the changing rooms, opening up the player lounge so we can relax with a sports drink and TV before the game. After the game we have our own players lounge in which we can play pool, darts and watch football results on the big screen, and enjoy a hot meal and drinks. I have played at Welsh League 1 & 2, Newport County and Yeovil Town, and I can honestly say we have better facilities at our disposal than all the above. After visiting the likes of Chepstow town, Albion Rovers and lots more clubs, we are so lucky for the club and committee we have.
I would personally like to thank Malcolm Rickards, Kevin Middle, Gorden Richards, Bob Small, Owen Richards, Alan Burns, Steve Wells and managers Steve Shearman and Paul Waite for providing us with the best set up and most professional run club in Gwent. I'm proud to play for this club and will continue to wear the shirt with Pride.
Matthew Shearman.
16th January 2009
# Amateur Cup Preview:
Tomorrow we travel to Chepstow Town in The Amateur Cup. The match was scheduled for last weekend, but due to the freezing weather conditions the field was frozen and the game postponed.
We are without our goalkeeper Craig Williams for tomorrows game, so stand in goalkeeper David Thomas should start between the sticks. Aaron Palfrey is on County under 18 duty and we will miss his pace and goal scoring threat. Long term casualty Kristian Howells is still sidelined.
Captain Gareth Priest will lead the team out in what is ahuge game for the club. Striker Matthew Shearman could make his first start since September, and attacking midfielder Matthew Jackson returns after missing the Abercarn game through personal problems.
As both club sides have a slim hope of the league, and both out of the County Cup, this game is now the last opportunity of silver wear for both clubs.
Good luck lads, wear the shirt with pride and take us through to the quarter finals.
15th January 2009
# The first team squad were put through their paces at training last night, ahead of this Saturday's cup game at Chepstow. The jads were put to the sword with a fitness season by playere coach David Thomas and the Gaffa. After half an hour of fitness the players concentrated on some ball work. The lack of action over the last five weeks resulted in this session being a mixture of fitness and ballwork
We look in decent shape ahead of this weekend, with the boys eagre for action.
12th January 2009
# Due to a frozen pitch, our Amateur Cup game at Chepstow Town was postponed. The game will know take place this coming Saurday, 17th January 2009, that results in our home game against Cefn Forest due to be played that day, being cancelled.
11th January 2009
# Games cancelled on Saturday due to the cold weather.

# Amateur Cup Preview:
Tomorrow we travel to Chepstow Town in the Amateur Cup, with the winners progressing to the quarter finals. We entertained Chepstow earlier in the season in the league and beat them 2-1 with both goals from Gareth Priest. Our performance thar day was of a high standard and we thoroughly deserved the win.
That counts for nothing when 1.30 pm arrives tomorrow and with the league championship realistically out of both teams reach, and both teams out of the County Cup, this is a huge game for both clubs.
Cwmffrwdoer are without Captain Gareth Priest, long term casualty Kristian Howells and Craig Williams, but we welcome back Marcus Lear in goal. There will be no hiding place for anyone and each and every one of you will need to stand up and be counted.
Good luck.
7th January 2009

# Coed Eva Preview:
This weekend we travel to Coed Eva Athletic in a top of the table clash. Coed Eva knocked us out of last seasons John Payne League Cup, in a comfortable 3 - 1 win at the quarter final stage. The following week they travelled back to us and both side shared a 2 - 2 draw. Coed Eva have had a fantastic season so far and we are well aware of the danger they pose for us in this fixture. After last Saturday's disappointing performance it's important we get back to the attacking football we are capable of playing. Kick off 2.00 pm.
Good Luck boy's.

# Undy Match Preview:
With lasts weeks dissapointing draw against Treowen, it is important we take maximum points this Saturday at home to Undy. Undy are not reaching the heights they reached last year, but are still a good footballing side.
The last time we met Undy was an away game towards the the end of last season, and it was a cracker for the neutrals. The Doer took the lead after 25 mins. when Gareth Priest produced a great cross from the right and Matthew Shearman converted on the volley from 8 yards, thats how the game stayed up till half time. After the restart Shearman lobbed the keeper from 25 yards to put us two up and seemingly in control until a penalty converted by the prolific Phil Tranter got Undy back in the game. Tranter made it two each after 75 mins. with a shot from the edge of the box, then two more Undy goals in the space of 10 mins. put the hosts 4 - 2 up with 5 mins. remaining. Priest got one back after a shot from Shearman was spilled by the keeper and Priest followed in to score. Then with 2 mins. re-maining the Doer won a corner in front of the home support. Shearmans delivery was met with a powerful header by priest, which won a point for the Doer. Such a great game of football on a superb field and a sunny afternoon will not be forgotten by those who witnessed it.
There are no new injury worries for this week game although we will be missing Aaron Palfrey who is on County Under 18 duty in Oxford. We could see the debut of new signing Craig Williams, Kristian Howells may be available after injury and also Matthew Shearman is in contention to play some part in his rehabilition from ligament damage.
25th November 2008
# Last weeks man of the match was David Jenkins who didn't put a foot wrong and was as solid and reliable as ever.
# Last weeks "Wally of the Match" was Gareth Priest for missing the target from 4 yards.
# Chris Williams is almost back to full fitness after knee surgery.
# Matthew Shearman could be involved in this weeks games as he recovers from ankle ligament damage.
# Criag Williams could make his debut for the 1st team, Craig played for the 2nd side last Saturday in there defeat 0 - 1 in the cup.
# Work has been completed on the stands, with the dug outs to follow.
24th November 2008
# Palfrey in Gwent Squad:
Congratulations to Aaron Palfrey, who has been called up to represent the Gwent County Under 18's squad. The youngsters travel to Oxford this coming Saturday the 29th November to participate in the County game. The 18 year old can play on either wing and can use either foot, and frightens defenders with his electric pace.
Good luck Aaron.
21st November 2008
# Treowen Match Preview:
This saturday our boys travel to Treowen where our record has not been very good in the past two years. Our recent league form has been good and with the enthusiasm and pace we have in the side, we can hopefully change that record. Saturday could see the debut of our new recruit Craig Williams, and possibly the return of Kristian Howells.
The last time the two side met each other was in August, and we had to settle for a share of the points after a 2 - 2 draw. Matthew Shearman put us ahead after 20 minutes, then after an hour Jamie Roch put us two up from the spot after Matthew Shearman was brought down in the box. Then things went from bad to worse when Mark Williams got sent off for violent conduct with 25 minutes left to play. Treowen took advantage of the ten men and came from two down to rescue a point.
Lets hope the boys can maintain this good run we are on at the moment and take the maximum points to keep the pressure on the top two in the league.
Good luck lads.
19th November 2008
# The Amatuer Cup draw has been made.

Cwmffrwdoer would like to give a warm welcome to new signing Craig Williams. The 19 year old goalkeeper was signed from Welsh League side Goytre, Graig's former clubs include Tranch and Panteg. Craig took part in his first training session with the club last night and we wish him every success.

# DOER THROUGH TO NEXT ROUND OF THE CUP
Cwmffrwdoer are through to the next round of the Amateur Cup without kicking a ball !!! Clydach were found guilty of calling off the match. On Wednesday 12th November at the Gwent FA meeting it was proved that Clydach had not complied with the offical rules in the cancellation of the game on Saturday 8th November. Clydach have been removed from the competion, resulting in a bye to the next round of the cup. We now await the draw for the next round.
9th November 2008
# MANAGER OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR THE GAFFA
The club would like to congratulate the coaching staff after Steve Shearman won Manager of the month award for October. Our record was; played 5, won 4, drew 1, lost 0, scored 19 and conceded 1. That run has seen us climb to 4th in the league and within 3 points of the top of the league.
Well Done!
# WORK HAS COMMENCED ON THE DUG-OUTS AND STAND
Work was started on Friday morning on the dug outs and stand, which had been vandalised over the summer period. Weather permiting the work should be finished in time for the game on the 15th November.
# JOHN PAYNE CUP UPDATE
The rescheduled game against Clydach should have taken place this Saturday, however the Gwent FA have launched an investigation into the reason's why Clydach didn't comply with the offical rules for the postponed game. We will wait and see what happens.
